Seborrheic dermatitis is a scalp disorder it is an inflammatory scalp condition. It can be identified by white to yellowish flakes like dandruff, crust on the scalp, and itchiness. Furthermore, some confuse the disorder with psoriasis, eczema, or an allergic reaction because they have similar appearances.
According to my.clevelandclinic.org, researchers aren’t sure of the cause of seborrheic dermatitis. They think there may be many causes. However, some factors that can trigger the scalp disorder are overactive yeast called Malassezia, inflammatory reaction, increased level of androgen, high levels of anxiety and stress, and using harsh, alcohol-based hair products.
To manage this type of scalp disorder our Trichologist recommends:
Implementing some stress management techniques to reduce stress.
Discontinuing the use of harsh products.
Implementing a six-week weekly scalp care regimen using Tresstoration Detox root to properly remove product and oil buildup. Shampoo with an over the counter 1% ketoconazole shampoo to relieve itching discomfort and inflammation.
If severe, chronic, or condition continues see your Dermatologist for a prescription shampoo and hydrocortisone.
In conclusion, I have had success with managing seborrheic dermatitis flare-ups using the recommended products and stress-relieving techniques. I further recommend that continued practices of promoting scalp wellness and stress management could prevent future outbreaks.
